Loans & Liabilities
VitalHops helps you track all your loans and liabilities alongside your assets, giving you a complete picture of your net worth.
Supported Loan Types
- Home Loans — Mortgages and property financing
- Personal Loans — Unsecured personal financing
- Vehicle Loans — Auto and vehicle financing
- Other Loans — Any other type of liability
Adding a Loan
- Navigate to Liabilities in the sidebar
- Select the loan type (Home, Personal, Vehicle, or Other)
- Click Add and fill in the details:
- Lender name
- Loan account number
- Loan amount (principal)
- Outstanding balance
- Interest rate and type (Fixed, Variable, or Islamic)
- Monthly EMI
- Loan tenure (in years)
- Maturity date
- For home loans, you can link the loan to a property asset
- Click Save
Loan Details
Each loan entry tracks:
| Field | Description |

| Lender Name | The bank or financial institution |
| Account Number | Your loan account identifier |
| Principal Amount | Original loan amount |
| Outstanding Balance | Current remaining balance |
| Interest Rate | Annual interest rate percentage |
| Rate Type | Fixed, Variable, or Islamic financing |
| Monthly EMI | Your monthly installment amount |
| Tenure | Loan duration in years |
| Maturity Date | When the loan will be fully paid |
EMI Calculator
VitalHops includes a built-in EMI calculator to help you plan:
- Go to Liabilities > EMI Calculator
- Enter the loan amount
- Set the interest rate
- Choose the loan tenure
- The calculator shows your estimated monthly EMI
Use the EMI calculator to:
- Plan new loan applications
- Compare different loan offers
- Understand the impact of prepayments
- Calculate total interest payable
Portfolio Integration
Your loans are factored into your overall financial picture:
- Net Worth = Total Assets - Total Liabilities
- Debt-to-Asset Ratio — Displayed on your dashboard health metrics
- AI Insights — The AI Assistant considers your liabilities when providing recommendations
Managing Loans
Updating a Loan
As you make payments, update the outstanding balance to keep your portfolio accurate:
- Open the loan detail page
- Click Edit
- Update the outstanding balance
- Save changes
Closing a Loan
When a loan is fully paid off:
- Open the loan detail page
- You can either update the balance to zero or delete the loan
- Your net worth will automatically adjust
Best Practices
- Keep outstanding balances up to date for accurate net worth calculations
- Link home loans to their corresponding property assets
- Use the EMI calculator before taking on new debt
- Assign nominees to loans so they're aware of obligations
- Review the debt-to-asset ratio on your dashboard regularly
